Churches Planted by Xhosa Gospel Mission
It's a long and often arduous process to build a church in the townships around East London, South Africa. First, usually the land must be bought, borrowed, or rented, and a shack built. This is where the congregants meet until an actual church building is constructed. After that follows a process of building the church, for which volunteers are greatly needed. Xhosa Gospel Mission currently has planted several churches and mentored pastors for the churches: Scenery Park Baptist Church, Amalinda Forest Church and refurbished Gilgal Baptist Church. The Kayalitscha church is still a shack type building, which has been expanded and relocated several times and now can accommodate at least 100 persons. New church plants are being considered. Our goal is for all churches to have a pre-school facility, either as a separate building or alternatively in a shack. These help children in the areas to be school-ready.
The congregants of Kayalitscha Church Praise the Lord!
The people in the video are inside the building in the photo above, crammed inside!
Despite these conditions, they are happy to have a place to worship.
Since then, the size of the church's building has increased.
